Dr. Andrea Maria Gáldy

* 1967, originally trained in Italian Literature, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the universities of Augsburg, Perugia (incl. Etruscology, Ancient Topography) and Hamburg. Magister Artium, Hamburg 1991. Doctoral student with a project on the antiquities collections of Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici, first in Hamburg (Classical Archaeology, Prof. Dr. Fehr), from 2001 at the (then) School for Art History and Archaeology, Prof Dr Suzanne B Butters.

September 2002: thesis defended: ‘Con bellissimo Ordine’: Antiquities in the Collection of Cosimo I and Renaissance Archaeology, Ph.D. awarded October 2002

2003 – 2005: post-doctoral fellowship at the Henry Moore Foundation: Sculpture and the Kunstkammer: Collecting and Display in Early Modern Florence and Dresden.

2005 -2006: post-doctoral fellowship at Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence, Melville J Kahn fellowship for the academic year 2005-6: Florence as a Sixteenth-century Centre of Antiquarian Studies.

Lila Wallace Fellowship, for the academic year 2005-6, held at Villa I Tatti.

2006 to 2011 Professor for art history at Florence University of the Arts, Florence.

2011 to 2012 Lecturer for art history at The British Institute of Florence, Florence, teaching British students from the University of Buckingham.
